Simon Mills 'Harmonic Jigsaws Vol I' Album Cover Design
Client: Simon Mills
You may know Simon as one half of the influential electronic duo Bent, the guys responsible for the fantastic era-defining Swollen which was released back in 2000 on their debut album Programmed to Love which I played to death when it was released.
It's such a weird and wonderful record, full of emotion, humour, funny samples and beautiful music.
The duo split after releasing three more albums (and two compilation albums) which didn't really bring them the recogintion they deserve, though you will find an army of die-hard fans out there who really get their stuff and appreciate the magic they have woven from their vast collection of old records and samples.
Simon has continued to make music, initially under the guise of Napoleon and now, with the release of Harmonic Jigsaws Vol. I, as Simon Mills.
Being asked to create the artwork for the album was a most serndipitous affair - Simon saw a time-lapse drawing I'd put on line to a rare B-Side of Bent's (Beach Buggy for all you geeks out there).
Ten minutes later I'd received a message form Simon asking if I'd be up for illustrating his new album.
Not only was I going to do something I'd always wanted to do, it was to be for an artist whose music I loved and respected massively. Thanks universe!
